altar boy club

The Altar Boy Program is open to all boys, grades five and older who have a desire to serve our Lord during Mass as an Altar boy. Many priestly vocations come from the altar. Altar boys help the priest during the Holy Mass with the books, censer and candles. This requires that the boys be responsible and disciplined as well as knowledgeable as to the order of the Mass.

Students must be in good standing with the school and be committed to maintaining reverence.

Students will serve school Masses, on and off campus, on a rotating schedule. The boys are taught Altar serving techniques. Initial training is completed at the beginning of the year.

Devotion to the Holy Eucharist is encouraged and emphasized.

An end of the year luncheon is celebrated with the Altar boys and advisor.

little flowers club

"Little Flowers Girls' Club® is a Catholic program for girls ages 5 and up based on learning Catholic virtues through the lives of Catholic saints, Scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Developed by a Catholic mom of nine, Rachel Watkins, and based on Fr. Lasance's Catholic Girls' Guide, the Club strives to bring the Catholic faith alive and inspire the girls to become authentic Catholic women. Nine virtues are included in each of three different wreaths or years of study. A fourth year, studying the fruits of the Spirit is also available. Badges for the virtues are earned by studying the saint associated with the virtue, memorizing relevant scripture verses and studying the Catechism".

science fairs

Grades K-6 hold a "Science Fair" where each grade has a different topic of science investigation for the students to conduct and present. Students in grades 7 and 8 are required to produce Science Fair project based upon the criteria that the Greater San Diego Science and Engineering Fair requires. We have an average of 4-6 entries each year in this Fair, with three winners chosen to go to the State Fair. The Science Fair projects of 7-8 grades are presented to the parents on "Science Fair Night". Students display their projects and are available for questioning and comments by parents.

St. Joseph Academy has a unique program, Arts Attack, in grades K-8. Students are exposed to famous artists and their art on a weekly basis through our "Art in Action" program. Selected works of art are explained to the students and then the students are given the opportunity to replicate the piece through different mediums. Art classes offer hands on activities that allow the students to see the accomplishments of their efforts. The students' art projects are showcased annually at the end of the year.

One of the goals of SJA is to form apostles of Christ, these are students who not only know their Faith, but live it as well. The school has developed a "Works of Mercy" program where many of our K-12 students come together on a weekly basis to get "hands on" experience by directly helping many different members of our community. It is our hope and prayer that when they graduate, they will continue to participate in these activities and serve Christ, as He has commanded us.

A few of the activities the students are involved in are: visiting the elderly at nursing homes; providing, preparing, and serving meals to the homeless, as well as cleaning and preparing housing units for them; praying the Rosary for the unborn babies outside a local abortion clinic; working the phone banks for pro-life ballot issues; helping disabled children by becoming involved in activi-ties such as horse therapy; and raising money for Bibles for prisoners. The students also work together with the local Knights of Columbus to help the mentally disabled by taking part in selling and distributing Tootsie Rolls for their yearly drive. The students take joy in seeing the difference they make in the lives they are touching through these activities.

crusaders for life

St. Joseph Academy High School's Crusaders for Life Club embraces and endorses our Holy Father's statement in his encyclical The Gospel of Life:

"Abortion and euthanasia are crimes, which no human law can claim to legitimize. There is no

obligation in conscience to obey such laws; instead there is a grave and clear obligation to oppose

them by conscientious objection. In the case of an intrinsically unjust law, such as a law permitting

abortion or euthanasia, it is therefore never licit to obey it, or to ëtake part in a propaganda

campaign in favor of such a law, or vote for it" Pope John Paul II (The Gospel of Life, No. 72).

Our goal is to educate, promote and support all areas of Pro-Life work from conception to natural death.

  • We meet every 2 weeks at lunch to present a Pro-Life issue/topic and the Catholic perspective to our members and guests. We will plan activities each month to educate our community and support Pro-Life groups/activities.
  • Members will wear "Life Guard" t-shirts.
  • Provide literature for a "Pro-Life" Library at school
  • Provide "Pro-Life" bumper stickers to families
  • Members will be given "Little Feet" pins to wear.
  • Crusaders for Life will be present at various events throughout the year to promote education and support for Pro-Life issues.

Resources

drama club

The Saint Joseph Academy High School Drama Club put on three productions of "The Smallest of All", a play about the life of St. Bernadette, at the Avo Theater in San Marcos. The play was a great success and was well-received by the audiences.

great outdoors club

The Great Outdoors Club endeavors to foster an appreciation for outdoor activities, while demonstrating how God reveals Himself throughout His creation. Members will learn skills associated with various outdoor activities such as fishing, setting up camp, snorkeling, horseback riding, kayaking and snowboarding. Appreciation for God's creation will be fostered, as well as being good stewards of the resources that God has supplied. Guest speakers and presentations regarding outdoor activities will be incorporated throughout the year.

Club members will also put together and promote "Homeless lunch bags" sales to SJA families. "Homeless lunch bags": Each bag will contain a juice drink, non-perishable protein foods, dessert and information on homeless shelters in the area. A holy card expressing God's love will also be included. Each bag will be sold for $3.00 (at cost- no profit). These may be kept in one's car and given out to the needy when the opportunity arises.

Our Patron Saint is Blessed Giorgio Frasatti. All Great Outdoors Club members join the PACT. All members will receive a PACT armband and commit to praying daily "The Prayer for the Courage to be Great":

"Heavenly Father,

Give me the courage to strive for the highest goals,

to flee every temptation to be mediocre.

Enable me to aspire to greatness, as Pier Giorgio did,

and to open my heart with joy to Your call to holiness.

Free me from the fear of failure.

I want to be, Lord, firmly and forever united to You.

Grant me the graces I ask You through Pier Giorgio's intercession.

by the merits of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Amen."

Members will also commit to doing one act of charity per day.

St. Joseph Academy High School will be starting a new club: St. Paul Evangelization Club. We will meet on a bi-weekly basis to discuss various apologetics topics and how to evangelize our Catholic Faith to others. We will be taking field trips to participate in actual Street Evangelization with the San Diego outreach.

St. Paul Street Evangelization is a grassroots, non-profit Catholic evangelization organization, dedicated to responding to the mandate of Jesus to preach the Gospel to all nations by taking our Catholic Faith to the streets. We do this in a non-confrontational way, allowing the Holy Spirit to move in the hearts of those who witness our public Catholic presence.

As an on-the-street Catholic evangelization organization, St. Paul Street Evangelization provides an avenue for you to share the Person of Jesus Christ and the truth and beauty of the Catholic Faith with a hungry culture.
