Perseverance and Prayer

Throughout our school's existence, the success of St. Joseph Academy has come about by simply placing the school in God's hands. It is through prayer and perseverance that the sacred responsibility -- the authentic intellectual and moral education of our students -- may be fulfilled each day. Our students and staff pray the following prayers on a daily basis:

Morning Prayers

8:30 AM

THE MORNING OFFERING

O, JESUS, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer Thee my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day for all the intentions of Thy Sacred Heart, in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world, in reparation for my sins, for the holy souls in purgatory, for the intentions of all of our associates and benefactors, and for the intentions of the Holy Father. Amen.

HOLY SPIRIT PRAYER

HOLY SPIRIT guide my every thought, word, and deed. Amen.

PATER NOSTER (OUR FATHER)

PATER NOSTER, qui es in caelis, sanctificetur nomen tuum, adveniat regnum tuum, fiat voluntas tua, sicut in caelo et in terra. Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie, et dimitte nobis debita nostra, sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris, et ne nos inducas in tentationem, sed libera nos a malo. Amen.

PRAYER TO ST. JOSEPH

O, ST. JOSEPH, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the throne of God, I place in you all my interests and desires. O, St. Joseph, do assist me by your powerful intercession and obtain for me from your divine Son all spiritual blessings through Jesus Christ our Lord, so that having engaged here below your heavenly power I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most loving of fathers. O, St. Joseph, I never weary contemplating you and Jesus asleep in your arms. I dare not approach while he reposes near your heart. Press him in my name, and kiss his fine head for me, and ask him to return the kiss when I draw my dying breath. St. Joseph, patron of departing souls, pray for us. Amen.

HUMILITY PRAYER (Parts prayed daily, completed weekly)

O Jesus! meek and humble of heart, Hear me.
From the desire of being esteemed,

Deliver me, Jesus.

From the desire of being loved ...

From the desire of being extolled ...

From the desire of being honored ...
From the desire of being praised ...
From the desire of being preferred to others ...
From the desire of being consulted ...
From the desire of being approved ...
From the fear of being humiliated ...
From the fear of being despised...
From the fear of suffering rebukes ...
From the fear of being calumniated ...
From the fear of being forgotten ...
From the fear of being ridiculed ...
From the fear of being wronged ...
From the fear of being suspected ...

That others may be loved more than I,
Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.

That others may be esteemed more than I ...
That, in the opinion of the world,
others may increase and I may decrease ...
That others may be chosen and I set aside ...
That others may be praised and I unnoticed ...
That others may be preferred to me in everything ...
That others may become holier than I, provided that I may become as holy as I should ...

Midday Prayers

Elementary: 12:00 PM, 6th-12th: 12:10 PM

THE ANGELUS

The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary.

And she conceived by the Holy Spirit.

Hail Mary ...

Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord,

be it done unto me according to thy word.

Hail Mary ...

And the Word was made flesh [genuflect]

and dwelt among us.

Hail Mary ...

Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God,

that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray: Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts, that we to whom the Incarnation of Christ Thy Son was made known by the message of an angel may by His Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of His Resurrection, through the same Christ Our Lord. Amen.

Regina Coeli is prayed instead of the Angelus during the Easter season (from Easter to Pentecost).

REGINA COELI

V. Queen of heaven, rejoice, Alleluia.
R. For He whom thou didst deserve to bear, Alleluia.
V. Hath risen as He said, Alleluia.

R. Pray for us to God, Alleluia.
V. Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, Alleluia.

R. Because Our Lord is truly risen, Alleluia.
V. Let us pray.
R. O God, Who by the resurrection of Thy Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, hast vouchsafed to make glad the whole world, grant, we beseech Thee, that through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, His Mother, we may attain the joys of eternal life, through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

Bless us, O Lord, and these thy gifts, which we are about to receive from thy bounty through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

A DECADE OF THE HOLY ROSARY

Prayer Before Tests

PRAYER OF ST. THOMAS AQUINAS

Grant, O merciful God, that I may ardently desire, prudently examine, truthfully acknowledge, and perfectly accomplish what is pleasing to Thee, for the praise and glory of Thy Name. Amen.

End-of-the-Day Prayers:

3:10 PM

THE MEMORARE

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

ANIMA CHRISTI

Soul of Christ, sanctify me.

Body of Christ, save me.

Blood of Christ, inebriate me.

Water from the side of Christ, wash me.

Passion of Christ, strengthen me.

O good Jesus, hear me.

Within Thy wounds hide me.

Suffer me not to be separated from Thee.

From the malicious enemy defend me.

In the hour of my death call me.

And bid me come unto Thee,

that with Thy saints I may praise Thee

forever and ever. Amen.

PRAYER TO ST. MICHAEL

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

ACT OF CONTRITION

O MY GOD, I am heartily sorry for having offended thee, and I detest all my sins because I dread the loss of heaven and the pains of hell, but most of all because I have offended Thee, my God, who art all good and deserving of all my love, and I firmly resolve with the help of Thy grace to sin no more and avoid the near occasion of sin. Amen.

SPIRITUAL COMMUNION PRAYER by St. Alfonsus Liguori

My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the most Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my
heart. I embrace You as if You were already there, and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
