"Eighth grader, Kylie Konyn, won 2nd Place at the California State Science Fair in the Microbiology (medical) Junior Division. Unlike County where everyone goes home with an award, only the top four projects per category are recognized at the state level. SJA has never had a student place so high in the California State Science Fair. Congratulations, Kylie!
Kylie lives on a dairy farm in Escondido, and her project looked at the hypothesis: is it cost and time effective to treat cow mastitis with antibiotics or to let their immune system cure this bacterial disease? Kylie found that the use of antibiotics did not affect the cure rate, thus saving a farmer on average forty to hundred dollars per case of mastitis. Wow!"
